INDUSTRY PROFILE

Q & A: Janet Odgis
ManyThanx
New York City

Q. When and how did you start working in this business?
A. ManyThanx was started in 2010 as a response to the personal, handwritten note being replaced by the more impersonal email. We take this issue to heart with our line of contemporary notes inspired by a passionate belief in the enduring value of the handwritten note.

I have a successful design firm, Odgis + Company, and found that including a handwritten thank-you note with my invoices made an impression on my clients.

Taking the time to personalize a note speaks volumes about how much you appreciate a person. Composing notes on cards of the highest quality and creativity demonstrates your personal sense of style and thoughtfulness, too.

Q. What is your signature style?
A. Modern, fresh, sophisticated and not afraid of being playful!

Q. What are your most popular stationery offerings?

A. Our "Animales" line does very well; people really respond to their colorful graphic forms. And our "Handy" line, which has a simple line drawing of a hand and a short and sweet caption, like a pair of knuckle-knocking hands that say "Well done" or a pair of hands posed to "High five!"

Q. Please share the direction your line will be taking.
A. This year we developed larger more colorful designs as we found that the market was moving away from smaller subtle designs to bolder ones. We are thinking of expanding to textiles and are currently planning on adding a line of scarves.

Q. If you couldn't do this, what would you do instead?
A. We love to design anything and everything from ourselves to our environments and lifestyles. We believe design is essential to human happiness.
